Modbus
Modbus
Modbus is an open communication protocol widely used in industrial automation and energy systems to connect controllers, sensors, and devices. Modbus RTU uses serial communication (RS-485) for local device control, while Modbus TCP uses Ethernet for networked communication. Most battery inverters, solar inverters, and HVAC systems support Modbus, making it a de facto standard for DER integration. Molecule's MOS 350 gateways speak Modbus natively, enabling plug-and-play integration with 1000+ device makes and models. Modbus is simple, reliable, and well-documented-ideal for deterministic control in VPP applications.
How Molecule Systems Relates
Molecule's edge gateways speak Modbus natively, enabling plug-and-play integration with the majority of battery inverters, solar inverters, and HVAC systems on the market. The Optimization SDK provides Modbus integration tools that allow developers to connect devices in under 30 minutes via drag-and-drop configuration.
