Ancillary Services
Ancillary Services
Ancillary Services are grid support functions required to maintain reliable electricity delivery, including frequency regulation, voltage support, spinning reserves, and black start capability. These services ensure grid stability beyond just generating and delivering energy. Frequency regulation (adjusting output every few seconds to match supply and demand) and fast frequency response (sub-second response to grid disturbances) are high-value ancillary services that VPPs can provide. Ancillary services are typically procured by ISOs through market auctions and compensated at premium rates due to their critical role in grid reliability.
How Molecule Systems Relates
Ancillary services like frequency regulation require sub-second response times - impossible with cloud-based dispatch. Molecule's edge-first architecture via MOS 350 executes dispatch logic locally with millisecond-level precision, making VPPs capable of providing high-value ancillary services that most cloud-dependent platforms cannot reliably deliver.
